MATTHEW R. DOHERTY

Partner

Matt is a partner at the firm with over a decade of legal experience.  Matt is originally from Hillsboro, North Dakota, but had connections to the Twin Cities that drew him to the area. While in law school, Matt served on the Executive Board for the Valparaiso University Law Review and clerked for United States Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Matt served a one year clerkship for the Honorable Carol Ronning Kapsner at the North Dakota Supreme Court. Matt’s practice includes both real estate transactions and business litigation. The majority of his clients are connected to the concentrations in construction, real estate, and manufacturing. Matt often takes an “outside general counsel” approach with his clients. He provides his clients with a single point of contact and accountability for their projects on all their legal needs. MATTHEW R. HARTRANFT

MATTHEW R. HARTRANFT

Attorney

Matt believes that effective businesses are the foundation of successful, prosperous communities. As the owner of a tristate dry-goods distribution business that faced the challenges of the 2007-2009 recession, Matt learned first-hand the difference that dependable legal counsel can make. Today, as a lawyer, Matt takes a practical approach to working with owners and management to support sound business transactions and conflict resolution. Matt assists in buying and selling businesses, resolving shareholder disputes, enforcing payment obligations, and drafting contracts for businesses. Matt’s passion for working with closely held businesses dates back to his early work supporting both rural and urban community development in Venezuela in the early 2000s. Today, Matt continues to develop and implement novel business and legal solutions through his service with the Minnesota non-profit called Mano-a-Mano, meaning “hand in hand,” where he supports the work to bring communities and funding together to build dozens of schools, hospitals, roads, wells, and air transport services in rural Bolivia. Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and four kids, is an avid cyclist, and is passionate about helping people unite with their communities and discover Minnesota’s trails and wilderness.
